The Importance of Anti-Snap Locks
According to recent data from the Office for National Statistics, around 70% of all burglaries that occur in the UK begin with the perpetrator gaining access via the front door.
With almost no skill involved at all, a burglar can snap a traditional, low-rated cylinder in just seconds, rendering it completely useless and granting them access to the property and everything inside!
By upgrading existing door locks to high-security ones, you can prevent break-ins caused by lock snapping and other common entry techniques, like bumping, picking and drilling.
What Makes a Cylinder ‘High-Security’?
All locks and cylinders have a rating, and in order to be considered ‘high-security’ and ‘anti-snap’ your lock should fall into one of the following categories:
SS312 Diamond
The first standardised test designed to counter a rise in lock-snapping burglary cases, the SS312 Diamond rating is the highest level of approval for all cylinder locks.
TS007 3-Star
With ratings going from 1-star to 3-stars, the TS007 ratings are the British Standard for front door locks. Locks that receive a 3-star rating must meet all requirements outlined by the British Standard and be able to withstand drilling, picking, bumping, snapping and plug extractions.
Locks that meet these high standards will be marked with noticeable markings allowing you to easily identify them.
